Description #
There is currently a shortage of manpower for the stroke weekend coverage. This document will outline the current solutions, which utilizes a mix of fellows, additional consult staff, and a potential clinical associate hire for the future.
Scheduling #
Right now, the consult staff of each week is scheduled to help with the weekend coverage from 8am- 12pm every Saturday and Sunday, with a few exceptions:
- If a fellow is scheduled for ward that week, they will handle the weekend coverage instead. This will happen once every month.
- If an additional clinical associate is hired, they may take over some of the weekend coverage. A clinical associate has yet to be hired, so the consult staff can expect to be responsible for additional weekend coverage for three out of the four weeks every month
Workload and expectations for weekend coverage staff #
Additional weekend coverage will be from 8am-12pm every Saturday and Sunday. The staff on call is expected to have their pager on at 8am, and respond to:
- All outside calls
- Consults calls from emergency
- Hot strokes
Note that if there are any overnight consult cases that need to be “cleaned up,” the half-day staff should not be required to attend to these. They will be responsible for new work that began after 8am only.

Details are subjected to change depending on future developments (eg. if a clinical associate is hired
