Telestroke in CST Cerner

1 min read

Telestroke consultations should now be documented in CST Cerner instead of by phone dictation. This will ensure that information is available in Cerner for patients who are transferred.

All documentation – including telephone consultations – need to be saved in an appropriate encounter.

If the patient is in a CST-live facility at the time of the consult (e.g. ER at SPH), you should document using the existing, active encounter. Do not add orders to the encounter, but you can review orders that are placed for accuracy.

If the patient is not currently at a CST-live facility, then you will need to generate an encounter. You can do this by Message Center (easier) or by phone to 62238 (harder).

Using Message Center:

  1. Open Message Center / Communicate
  2. Search for the patient — if found, this reduces your work
  3. Address the message to VGH Encounter Pool (Figure 1)
  4. In the Message area, load the ,,stroke_telestroke_encounter (you may need to load from Stephen van Gaal’s profile using Autotext Copy). If you can’t load / copy the autotext, you can use the default message by choosing Encounter Creation Request from the Subject drop-down
